The Arcola Health Centre temporarily suspended emergency and in-patient services on Wednesday because of a doctor shortage.“This has been an ongoing issue for the past two years and each time it’s very, very difficult because anybody who is in the hospital has to be sent away from home, which is just a horrible thing,” Sim said. “When things happen this quickly it’s hard to get the word out that the doors are going to be locked. From a community perspective, when I drive past the sign and I see the H covered, it’s very difficult because we’re trying to keep rural Saskatchewan alive.”Services were suspended after the Sun Country Health Region was notified one of the two physicians who share a practice between Arcola and Carlyle would be unavailable for up to four weeks, said Marga Cugnet, the region’s vice-president of primary and integrated health.
