A New York Times editorial by Teri Mills, RN, MS, ANP, CNE, that called for a national nurse position, resonated with the public, sparked a federal bill, and galvanized opposition from established nursing organizations.

All of this has led the Oregon nurse educator to modify her original proposal to one that would beef up existing public health programs.

“Since the idea was first initiated, it’s developed and changed quite a bit,” says Mills, president of the National Nursing Network Organization, a group she formed to advocate for the national nurse position. Read more…
