From Dec. 29 to Jan. 10, local medical professionals were in Uganda, at a Watoto village, where they learned as much as, if not more, than they taught. Bremen nurse Janice Wood, was one of the participating members of the group that included a pediatrician, nurses, technicians, and people doing pastor training. Wood is an ob-gyn nurse at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. She had been looking for a mission trip where she could use her skills, a place where “they needed someone to deliver babies and give immunizations. I did neither while I was there, but I did use my skills,” Wood said.

The village they visited, Cabaale, had no clinic, and the nearest, and only, hospital was 30 miles away; “I asked the Lord what I should take,” Wood said, “and I did a lot of work on line. I learned that one of every 16 women died in childbirth, and 25 percent of those from hemorrhaging. These women were afraid to get pregnant.” She added that there were a lot of reasons for this, but she could do things to help. Read more
