A former Haywood Regional Medical Center nurse filed a lawsuit against the hospital Thursday, alleging she was fired after pointing out safety problems to state inspectors.Nurse Ellen Ann Mull said in her lawsuit that she talked to state inspectors at the hospital on Feb. 1 about looking into complaints of potentially dangerous problems with how the staff administered medication. Hospital officials called her the next day and told her not to report to work, Mull said in the lawsuit. Six days after the meeting with inspectors, the hospital fired her in retaliation for discussing problems at the hospital, according to the lawsuit.Mull had worked for Haywood Regional since 2000. She has been a licensed nurse since 1971 and was in the Army 1969-90, holding the rank of lieutenant colonel. Read more
