New nursing facilities at Copper Mountain College were unveiled Friday in an open house hosted by the community college’s health sciences department. The public was invited to tour the new facilities and observe demonstrations of the new high-tech equipment.

The college recently completed the renovation of its nursing facilities to include a simulation lab. The expansion was paid for with money from bonds authorized by voter-approved Measure C as well as from grants.

The Copper Mountain College Foundation provided $45,631 to buy two mechanical dolls that simulate human patients, called SimBaby and VitalSimPediatric. They are used to train students in infant and pediatric care skills that they may not have the opportunity to observe in their live clinical training.

In May 2007, Copper Mountain College graduated its first class with 34 students from the registered nursing program. The current class of 48 RN students began in August 2007. Read more
