Staff at Derby’s hospitals will be balloted on strike action over plans to downgrade nurses’ roles - meaning some would face pay cuts.

At a Unison meeting in the city last night, about 200 workers voted in favour of taking industrial action against Derby Hospitals NHS Trust.

An estimated 197 members voted to strike, three people wanted to take action such as working to rule instead and everyone voted against accepting recent offers from the trust, including longer pay protection for those affected.

Unison has confirmed that all members in Derby’s hospitals will now be invited to take part in a secret postal ballot for strike action.
Unison has about 1,700 members at Derbyshire Royal Infirmary and Derby City General, including about 500 nursing staff. Cleaners, porters and receptionists are also among their members. Read more
