The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses is shocked over the Essential Services Legislation tabled yesterday.   According to the union, nurses provide an essential service every day and the health regions have been unable to manage day to day operations which have resulted in a shortage of registered nurses. SUN President Rosalee Longmoore says since nurses and other health care professionals are so essential the governments first priority and course of action in power should be to address the labour shortages in health care not to violate workers rights. Longmoore says the right to withdraw services during labour disputes has served the public good for decades by putting pressure on union members to settle because they are not being paid and on management because of public pressure due to service disruptions.  Read more
