A strike by 11,000 Manitoba nurses has been averted. Eleventh-hour talks this weekend ended in a deal that called off today’s strike vote.“We got a call on Friday with what we felt was an offer significant enough to get us back to the table,” said Manitoba Nurses Union president Maureen Hancharyk.The nurses union bargaining committee met with the province all day Saturday until an agreement was reached at midnight Saturday, Hancharyk said.“We believe that it’s a good offer,” Hancharyk said this afternoon. “It addresses our number one issue — competitive wages,” she said. “The shortage of nurses is critical in Manitoba.
