The nurses’ union is calling on the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region to ship patients out of the region to address safety concerns caused by overcrowded emergency rooms.The emergency rooms are overflowing because of the nursing shortage and a outbreak of VRE (antibiotic-resistant infections) which has resulted in bed closures placing stress on an already overburdened system. The region has a total of 81 beds closed at the two acute-care hospitals in Regina — 28 at the Pasqua and 53 at the Regina General Hospital. Read more
