The province’s large number of nursing vacancies has patient safety at stake, says the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association. “We are quite concerned because historically, this province used to have almost 9,000 nurses and now we are down to 8,800 nurses,” said Donna Brunskill, executive director of SRNA. “These registered nurses are working a significant amount of overtime. They are tired and this is not good for the safety and quality of the health system.”
Brunskill and Colleen Toye, president of SRNA, met with the Prairie North Health Region this past Wednesday to discuss the nursing shortage.
