The decision if nurses from a hospital in Świdnica, south west Poland, whether to go on strike will be made on Thursday, depending on the results of a meeting with the hospital management. The trade union operating in the hospital in Świdnica have given the management a few days to find money for a 700 zlotys monthly pay rise for each nurse. The deadline runs out on today. Head of the Nurses and Midwives’ Trade Union, Elżbieta Pieprz, has said that the doctors at the same hospital have negotiated a salary increase and the nurses demand the same. Director of the hospital Jacek Domejko ensured on Tuesday that he would prepare a proposal for the nurses for the Thursday meeting, but an increase of 700 zlotys each was out of the question. He said the nurses could count on 100 zlotys monthly more from the beginning of April.
If the parties do not reach any compromise, the nurses are determined to begin strike action, beginning tomorrow. Read more
