The province and the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses have signed a formal agreement to work together to solve the nursing shortage in Saskatchewan.  Hailed as the first such agreement in Canada, it outlines a program to recruit 800 registered nurses over the next 4 years. The Associate Dean of Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Marlene Smadu has been selected to develop an action plan for nurse recruitment.

This afternoon, a special recruitment team will be leaving for the Phillipines where they hope to hire as many as 300 nurses.

The agreement signed today clears a major hurdle that had stood in the way of a new contract between the nurses union, and the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations. Read more
